You should never have to guess what a safety app is doing.
OWL Protect is built on consent, not covert monitoring. This page lists everything the app can use, everything it will never collect, and gives you a switch for each optional part — reviewable and reversible at any time, with or without an account.
No covert monitoring
There is no hidden tracker, no message reading and no secret location feed. Every family tool here works only when the young person knows it exists and has agreed to it.
Device-first by default
Check-ups, checklists, planners and the confidential self-help forms run in your browser. Their answers never leave this device unless you deliberately share them.
Reversible, always
Withdrawing a choice takes one tap and applies immediately. You can also wipe every piece of OWL data from this browser at the bottom of this page.
Your consent choices
Nothing optional is switched on until you switch it on. Changes save the moment you make them.
Anonymous usage counts
- What it uses
- A count of page views and blocked/allowed navigation events, with no name, email, IP profile or account attached.
- Why
- Shows which safety tools people actually reach, so broken journeys get fixed.
- If you say no
- Nothing is sent. The site behaves exactly the same.
Save my progress on this device
- What it uses
- Checklist answers, saved tactics, kids-zone progress, bookmarks, language, theme and age mode — stored in this browser only.
- Why
- So a check-up or family challenge is still there when you come back.
- If you say no
- Tools still work, but they start blank every visit.
Ask OWL & OWL Scanner
- What it uses
- The words you type into Ask OWL or paste into the Scanner are sent to an AI model to generate a reply.
- Why
- It is the only way the assistant can answer. Never paste a real name, address, school or image of a child.
- If you say no
- The AI tools stay closed and you use the written guides instead.
Sync settings to my account
- What it uses
- If you are signed in, your age mode and adult confirmation are stored against your account.
- Why
- Keeps the right mode on every device you sign in to.
- If you say no
- Your settings stay on this device only.
What OWL Protect never collects
These are not settings. They are things the app simply does not do.
- Your child's location, or anybody's live location
- Message content, browsing history, keystrokes or screenshots from any device
- Contacts, photos, camera, microphone or files
- Device identifiers used to follow you across other websites
- Names, schools or addresses entered in the confidential self-help forms — those never leave the device
- Anything at all sold, rented or shared with advertisers or data brokers

Erasing is instant and cannot be undone. If you are signed in, it does not delete your account — use the account settings for that.
If you have an account
Accounts are optional. Almost every tool works signed out.
What an account stores
Your sign-in email, your age mode and adult confirmation, any professional-approval status, and anything you deliberately submit for moderation (a community tip, a forum post, feedback). Nothing else.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and withdraw consent at any time — including through the switches above. Children's data gets the highest protection setting by default under the Age Appropriate Design Code.
